Rockies Sign Former Texas No. 1 Draft to Minor League Deal

Chi Chi Gonzalez, limited the last two seasons to a pair of short-season starts late in 2018 after undergoing Tommy John surgery, has signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies.

In his two minor-league starts last year, he worked 10 shutout innings, allowing two hits, striking out four and not walking a batter. Gonzalez is pitching for Licey in the Dominican Winter League, and is 2-3 with a 1.91 ERA in six starts.

A native of Delray Beach, Fla., Gonzalez was selected by the Rangers as the 23rd pick in the first round in 2013. Gonzalez, who turns 27 on January 15, had two call-ups to the big leagues with the Rangers in 2015 and 2016. He was 4-8 with a 4.84 ERA in 17 games, 13 starts.
