Tuesday 4x4: Blackmon a Sudden Road Force
Charlie Blackmon has exploded on the road this season. He has seven home runs since Opening Day -- all on the road. Big deal? Well, he only had two career home runs on the road in April prior to this year -- one in 2017 and one in 2015.
His seven April home runs equal his most for the opening month of the season. He also had seven last year, but six were hit at Coors Field.
Charlie Blackmon, DJ LeMahieu and Nolan Areando rank 1-2-3 among NL players in hits since the start of the 2015 season. Carlos Gonzalez is No. 19 on the list.
There have been 56 players who have appeared in games with the Rockies and the Pirates, and three managers. Corey Dickerson, who appeared in his 14th game with the Pirates on Monday after appearing in 265 games with the Rockies (2013-15) is the only current player who did double duty. Clint Hurdle is the only manager to have managed the Rockies first and then the Pirates. Both Jim Leyland and Jim Tracy managed the Pirates and then the Rockies.
Among the players, only eight of the 56 players played at least 100 games with both franchises.
The Rockies are off to a good start on the road, winning 8 of 12 going into Tuesday. It's a good thing because they play 23 of their first 35 games on the road.
