Saturday 4x4: Rockies Doubled Up On Back-to-Back
After losing 10-2 at Pittsburgh on Wednesday the Rockies returned to play on Friday and lost 16-5 to the Cubs at home. It marked the 10th time since the start of the 2013 season that the Rockies pitching staff has given up 10 or more runs in consecutive games. Twice, in fact, they have done it three times in that stretch, something they will attempt to avoid Saturday night.
Jon Gray gave up seven of those runs, five of which were earned. It was the eighth time in 29 career starts at Coors Field that Gray has allowed five or more earned runs in a game.
It was the 13th time the Cubs have scored 10 or more runs at Coors Field, including a record-setting 26 runs against the Rockies on Aug. 18, 1995, the year Coors Field opened. Eight of the 13 games came prior to the humidor being installed for the 2002 season.
And the Cubs do hold the record of 26 runs in a game at Coors Field, one of nine times that a team has scored 20 or more runs. The Rockies did it three of those nine times, scoring 20 runs in each of those three games.
