Wednesday 4x4: For Starters, Lot of Nothing at Coors

The Rockies head into Wednesday's game with a streak by starting pitchers of 24 consecutive scoreless innings at Coors Field. Big deal? Well, it is four innings shy of the franchise record, set April 28-May 2, 2002, and it is only two innings shy of the longest such streak in the National League this season.

The Rockies rotation continued to roll on Tuesday night. Jon Gray worked seven shutout innings in the 4-2 victory against the Angels. It extended the Rockies winning streak to a season-best six games, but more than that it was a franchise-record nine consecutive quality start for the Rockies rotation.

The previous record of eight was set July 28-Aug. 6, 2006 with back-to-back three game sweeps at Coors Field of the Padres and Brewers, and two games against the Giants in San Francisco.

The Rockies equaled that June 4-11, 2009 when they won the final tame of a series at Houston, four games in St. Louis and three in Milwaukee.

The Rockies roll by its rotation actually extends for 12 games. They did not have a quality start at Miami on April 27, but that was because Tyler Anderson, after retiring four batters, had to depart because he was light-headed. The Rockies are 9-3, the rotation 8-3, in the last 12 games with a 1.55 ERA, which is the lowest in MLB, and a .182 batting average allowed, third lowest in MLB, but lowest in the NL.

Big win for the Rockies Tuesday night. They beat the Angels 4-2. How big a deal, well the Rockies had lost 11 of 13 previous games against the Angels at Coors Field, including the eight previous games at Coors. The Rockies are 9-24 all-time against the Angels, their second worst inter-league record. They are 1-7 against the Astros, who moved from the NL to the AL in 2013. The Rockies have a winning record against only two AL teams, and in both cases they are just one game above .500 -- Cleveland (12-12) and Baltimore (8-7).
