Desmond to Make $29,000 Donation to Children's Tumor Foundation
Rockies infielder Ian Desmond will present a check for $29,000 to the Children's Tumor Foundation as part of the pre-game ceremony prior to Saturday's game against the Dodgers at Coors Field.
As he has done in previous seasons, Desmond and his family pledged a donation of $1,000 to the Children’s Tumor Foundation for every RBI and run scored during the month of May. The mission of the Children’s Tumor Foundation is to drive research, expand knowledge of and advance care for the Neurofibromatosis community.
Desmond scored 14 times and drove in 15 runs, resulting in the donation of $29,000 for the combined total of his runs and RBI in May. For the month, he ranked third on the team in RBI and was fourth in runs as the Rockies went 15-11 to post the fourth-best winning percentage for May in franchise history (.577).
Throughout his career, Desmond has worked to raise awareness for Neurofibromatosis. Last year, he donated $16,000 to the Children’s Tumor Foundation in the month of May.
