The Rangers, meanwhile, have had a hard time getting started. The Texas rotation ranks last in the AL. Not only are the starters 14-31 in the first 70 games of the season, but they rank last with a 5.55 ERA.

For the series opener on Friday they are calling up right-hander Yohander Mendez, who they say they want to give an extended look. He arrives with a Triple-A resume at Round Rock of 0-3 with a 5.26 ERA.

On , Sunday, manager Jeff Bannister is looking at four options: Bartolo Colon, Yovanni Gallardo, Austin Bibens-Dirkx and Ariel Jurado.
