CarGo's Hot Bat Cooled by Back Spasms
Carlos Gonzalez, who has been in the middle of a recently resurgent Rockies offense, was a late scratch from the starting lineup on Saturday because of back spasms. Noel Cuevas took Gonzalez's spot in right field, and slipped into the No. 7 spot in the lineup.
Gonzalez was initially set to hit fourth. In his absence, manager Bud Black moved Trevor Story from fifth to fourth, Gerardo Parra from sixth to fifth, and Ian Desmond from seventh to sixth.
Gonzalez has hit .400 since May 27, raising his season batting average from .214 to .268, and had played his way back into a regular role. Gonzalez had started 10 of the last 11 games, hitting safely in nine of them, with multiple hits in six games.
Gonzalez had missed 10 games on the disabled list from April 19-30, but started in only 28 of the other 43 games the Rockies played prior to his recent surge. He started only 10 of the initial 22 games after coming off the disabled list on May 1.
