LeMahieu Activated from DL: Hampson Returned to Albuquerque
Second baseman DJ LeMahieu, on the disabled list since July 21 with a left oblique strain, was activated prior to Thursday's game in St. Louis. Infielder Garrett Hampson, called up when LeMahieu was disabled, was optioned back to Triple-A Albuquerque to make room for LeMahieu's return.
LeMahieu, who had never been on the disabled list in his career prior to this year, has been sidelined three times this season, but has still appeared in 72 games with the Rockies, hitting .278 with 22 doubles, eight home runs, 34 stolen bases and 52 runs scored.
A two-time All-Star, LeMahieu is a potential free-agent at season's end. Hampson and prospect Brendan Rodgers, promoted to Albuquerque from Double-A Hartford earlier this week, are the top candidates to take over at second bae if LeMaheiu does leave through free agency.
Hampson, 23, appeared in seven games, starting six games, and went 6-for-20 with a run scored, one double, two triples and two RBI. He started five games at second base and one at shortstop.
