Down 3-2, going into the bottom of the ninth on Thursday afternoon, the Rockies rallied against the Padres to pull out a 4-3 victory. Padres reliever Kirby Yates, put in the closer role after the July 16 trade of Brad Hand, struck out Nolan Arenado to open the inning. Trevor Story singled and stole second. Yates then struck out Gerardo Parra, which brought up Ian Desmond.

Desmond put an end to the game, delivering a two-run, walk-off home run on a 1-0 pitch from Yates. It was the seventh walk-off for the Rockies this season, tied for the eighth most in MLB this year, three shy of MLB leader St. Louis, which opens a three-game series at Coors Field on Friday night.

At the other extreme, the Royals have celebrated one walk-off win, the Orioles and White Sox two, and the Padres, Rangers and Dodgers three.

That's exciting. But the Rockies also have suffered six walk-off losses this season, which is six fewer than MLB-leading Minnesota. The Rockies are tied for the ninth-most walk-off losses in MLB with nine (yes nine) other teams. In other words, 17 of the 30 MLB teams have suffered six or more walkoff losses.

The Rangers, A's, Red Sox and Braves have suffered the fewest walk off losses with two each.
