Utah State QB Love Claims MW Offensive Player of the Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS – Utah State sophomore quarterback Jordan Love was selected the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time in his career. San Diego State linebacker Kyahva Tezino was named MW Defensive Player of the Week and Aztecs linebacker Kaelin Himphill earned Special Teams Players of the Week honors. I

Love completed 17-of-23 passes for 322 yards and a school-record tying five touchdown. He also gained 39 yards on four carries in Utah State’s 59-28 victory against UNLV. Chuckie Keeton was the last Utah State quarterback to throw for five touchjdowns in a game, against Weber State on Sept. 14, 2013.

Tezino, a junior, led an Aztec defense that limited Air Force to 17 points and 276 yards total offense, 94 yards below it’s season average, in a 21-17 win Tezino had a season-high 15 tackles, including 10 solos, a pass breakup and quarterback hurry.

Himphill, a sophomore, blocked a punt with 16 seconds left in the first half, which Trenton Thompson scooped up and returned for a touchdown, giving the Aztecs a 14-9 halftime lead. It was San Diego State’s frist blocked punt since 2014.
