CSUs Hillyer Earns MWC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS – Fresno State’s Madelyn Halteman and Colorado State’s Kirstie Hillyer earned the Mountain West Women’s Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors for contests through Oct. 21. It’s the first time in Halteman’s career she is being recognized. Hillyer was tabbed for the third time.
Halteman led the Bulldogs to two wins against Nevada and San José State this past weekend, resulting in Fresno State’s best record through 22 games since 2003. She had 89 assists, 21 digs and four block assists in the two games. She equaled a career-best 52 assists in a four set contest against San José State, adding 13 digs, four aces and three kills.
She averaged 11.12 assists per set, 2.62 digs per set and 1.38 points per set during the weekend.
Hillyer had 13 blocks in victories against UNLV (7) and New Mexico (6). She notched two solo blocks and five assisted blocks against New Mexico, helping limit the Lobos to an attacking percentage of .059. Offensively, Hillyer added nine kills on 15 attacks.
Versus UNLV, Hillyer garnered six blocks and helped the Rams defense limit the Rebels to a .154 hitting percentage. In the contest, she added 11 kills on 21 attacks.
