Gibson, Cowgirls Claim 10th in 1st Tourney

Gabrielle Gibson posted her fourth top-10 finish of the season, and the University of Wyoming women’s golf team finished 10th as a team in the Battle at the Rock Tournament at Oak Quarry Golf Club in Riverside, Ca.

“We played very up and down today and pressed when we needed to play more free,” UW head coach Josey Stender said of the final round on Tuesday. “That will come with more competitive rounds. The first tournament of the spring always exposes our weaknesses from the off season and I feel we aren’t far off. It comes with finding consistency in all areas of the game.”

Wyoming closed out the tournament with a 309 (+21) on Tuesday. The score gave UW a three-round total of 912 (+48). Gibson posted two birdies during the final round to finish with a three-round mark of 220 (+4).

“It was great to see Gabrielle (Gibson) earn another top-ten finish,” Stender added. “I know she wasn’t pleased with today but it is a great example of her improved competiveness and expectations.”

Junior Megan Knadler, who claimed a share of 42nd place, shot a 79 (+7) in the third round to total 230 (+14) for the event. She finished one shot ahead of freshman Jordan Remley. Playing as an individual, Remley also recorded a final-round 79 (+7), which brought her three-round mark to 231 (+15). Redshirt freshman Caitlyn Skavdahl closed out the first spring tournament with a 232 (+16) after a third round 77 (+5).

UC Davis held on for the team title with a three-round mark of 874 (+10). The Aggies shot a 295 (+7) on Tuesday. UC Davis’ Samantha Hutchinson and Alice Duan of CSU-Northridge took home the individual honors after each signed for a 211 (-5).

Wyoming will be back on the course Feb. 26-27 at the Rebel Beach in Las Vegas.
