Cowgirls Look to Hang On For MWC Hoops Top Seed
The Cowgirls are in control of their own destiny in the battle for the top seed in the MWC post-season basketball season. They, however, don’t have any margin for error. The Cowgirls and UNLV both have 10-3 conference records, the Cowgirls holding the tiebreaker thanks to last week’s 69-56 victory against UNLV.
But UNLV isn’t the only team challenging the Cowgirls in the standings. Colorado State, Boise State and Fresno State are tied for third with 10-4 records, one game behind the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls look to build on their bid for a No. 1 seed in a 3 p.m., (MT) game at San Jose State on Saturday. They are 17-7 overall after Wednesday’s 70-50 victory against San Diego State in which no Cowgirl played 30 minutes.
San Jose State comes into the game with a 3-10 record in the MWC, and 6-18 overall. The Cowgirls won a matchup with San Jose at the AA on Jan. 27 by a score of 58-46.The Cowgirls lead the all-time series with San Jose State 8-3.
Liz Roberts leads the Cowgirls with an average 14 points and six rebounds a game.
