Cowgirls Finish 4th in MW Swimming Championships
SAN ANTONIO -- With three swimmers advancing to to the finals in the 200 backstroke, the Cowgirls claimed a fourth-place finish in the MW Swimming Championships. Boise State won the event with San Diego State finishing second and Nevada third.
In the 200 backstroke freshman Monique Rae finished fourth with a career-best time of 1:55.79, the second fastest time in Wyoming history. Senior Kelley Sheldon finished fifth (1:56.31) and junior Marcela Gramcko was eighth (1:58.22).
Junior Isobel Ryan finished third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.68, a personal best and the fourth fastest time in Wyoming history.
Sophomore Karla Contreras had a season-high 263.10 in a second-place finish in the platform.
Sophomores Talita Te Flan finished 11th with a time of 16:46.17 and Luna Rocha 12th at 16:47.25 in the 1650 freestyle, personal bests for both. Te Flan’s time was the fastest time by any Cowgirl this season and the fourth-fastest in school history. Luna Rocha’s time was the fifth-fastest in school history.
Senior Maria Harutjunjan placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.69. Freshman Hannah McLean-Leonard finished ninth in the 200 butterfly,.
The 400 Freestyle Relay team of Ryan, junior Samantha Burke, Sheldon and senior Rachel McKivigan placed fourth with a season-best time of 3:20.43.
