Cherry Creek/AFA Grad Griffin Jax Makes AFL Debut in Salt River Loss
Right-hander Griffin Jax, a graduate of Cherry Creek High School and the Air Force Academy, made his Arizona Fall League debut in Salt River’s 6-2 loss at Scottsdale on Friday night. Jax, a third-round draft choice of the Twins in 2016, allowed two runs, one earned, in one inning of relief.
Jax, whose father Garth played in the NFL, is on the same team as the Rockies prospects, two of whom also pitched in the game. Jesus Tinoco (2.25) allowed one run on one hit and a walk, striking out two, in two innings, and Mitch Horacek (10.13) allowed one run on three hits, striking out three, in two innings.
Sam Hilliard (.444) was 1-for-4 with two strikeouts, and Josh Fuentes (.231) had his first challenging night, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
