Counting Down Rockies Top 30: No. 23 Musgrave
23. Harrison Musgrave, LHP
Born: 3/3/1992. B-T: L-L. Ht.: 6-1. Wt.: 205. Drafted: West Virginia, 2014 (8th round). Signed by: Ed Santa.
Musgrave was on the fast track to the big leagues, making 19 starts at the Triple-A level to finish up his second full season in pro ball, but he hit a detour for the first time in 2017. In a collision with his catcher in his 12 start of the season with Albuquerque he suffered a broken finger that require a pin and cut his season short. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2012, Musgrave returned to beat out Rockies starter Jon Gray for the The Big 12 Pitcher of the Year honors in 2013. He was a 33rd round draft choice of the Phillies, but opted to return to school, and went to the Rockies in the eighth round in 2014. He is not going to overpower hitters. His fastball sits at 90 miles per hour, but he makes it work because of command and deception. His out pitch is a legitimate changeup. He has a fringy slider, but he still works aggressively, challenging hitters. He projects as a back of the rotation arm.
