Counting Down Rockies Top 30: No. 20 Will Gaddis
20. Will Gaddis, RHP
Born: 3/12/1996. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-1. Wt.: 185. Drafted: Furman, 2017 (3rd round). Signed by: Jordan Czarniecki.
Rockies scouting director Bill Schmidt saw Gaddis dominating in the Cape the summer between his sophomore and junior seasons at Furman, and had him among the players in consideration for one of the Rockies two picks in the second round. Gaddis did lead the Southern Conference with nine wins and a 1.89 ERA in the spring of 2017, but the stuff wasn’t the same, the fastball sitting between 88 and 92 miles per hour, occasionally hitting 94. That allowed him to slip to the Rockies in the third round, the 86th pick overall, which still made him the highest drafted player in Furman history. Gaddis has shown four plus pitches – fastball, curveball, change and cutter, The fastball is capable of hitting 96 miles per hour and it has heavy sink. He throws strikes, averaging 1.42 walks per nine innings at Grand Junction last year, but that was offset by giving up 66 hits in 44 1/3 innings. He is confident on the mound. With an easily repeatable delivery he projects as a solid fourth starter.
