Wednesday Farm Report: 5 Grand Junction Players Selected to All-Star Team

The Grand Junction Rockies, who will host the Aug. 7 All-Star Game between the Pioneer League and Northwest League, had five players selected to the Pioneer League All-Star roster.

Rockies on the team are:

-- First baseman Grant Lavigne, a competitive balance pick after the first round in June, is hitting .371 with five home runs and 29 RBI.

--Infielder Coco Montes, the Rockies 15th-round pick in the June draft, is hitting .374 with six home runs and 27 RBI.

--Outfielder Niko Decolati, a sixth-round pick in June, is hitting .311 with six home runs and 34 RBI.

--Left-hander Reagan Biechler, a 31st round draft choice last June, who is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA.

--And right-handed pitcher Alexander Martinez, an undrafted player from the Dominican Republic, who has a 2.95 ERA and 11 saves. 

The Rockies Northwest League affiliate, Boise, has three players on the Northwest League team -- infielders Daniel Jipping, Danny Edgeworth and Terrin Vavra..

Tuesday's Games

AAA Albuquerque (51-57) was off.

AA Hartford (51-55) swept a doubleheader 6-5, 2-1 at Binghamton. Reid Humphreys (0.00),  recorded the final out in Game 1 to earn the save in his Double-A debut. Ryan Castellani (6-7, 5.79) earned his first win in six July starts. He allowed one run on five hits, striking out five in six innings. . Dom Nunez (.227) and Roberto Ramos (.218) hit back-to-back home runs in the second. Nunez also had an RBI-double in the third, and Mylz Jones (.277) delivered a two-run triple in the fourth. In the second game, Mitch Horaceck (2-3, 2.52) pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out two, to earn the win, and Matt Pierpont (2.00) recorded his 27th save with a scoreless ninth. Sean Nolin (5.33) started and allowed one run on four hits and two walks, striking out five, in three innings. Jones and Sam Hilliard (.271) had back-to-back run-scoring doubles in the to put the Yard Goats up 2-1.

High A Lancaster (23-16 2nd half; 56-53) lost 7-3 at Inland Empire. Bret Boswell (.400) made his debut after being promoted from Low A Asheville, going 2-for-5 and scoring a run. Colton Welker (.316) was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a double, and Wes Rogers (.306) hit his sixth home run. Matt Dennis (7-11, 5.61) gave up six runs on six hits and two walks, striking out eight, in 6 1/3 innings, and suffered the loss.

Low A Asheville (17-19 2nd half; 44-61) lost 6-0 at Greenville. The Tourists had three singles. Nick Kennedy (2-12, 7.53) allowed six runs, five earned, on nine hits and two walks, striking out seven. The second game of the doubleheader was suspended with one out in the top of the third, and Asheville leading 4-1. The game will be completed Wednesday night. 

Short-Season A Boise (2-6 2nd half; 23-23) lost 4-1 against Tri-City. Boise had two hits -- a double by catcher Willie MacIver (.286) and single by LeeMarcus Boyd (.115). Alex Byrd (1-2, 3.94) allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits and two walks, striking out four, in four innings.

Rookie Grand Junction (5-2 2nd half; 25-20) won 8-7 against Ogden. Shortstop Coco Montes (.374) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two home runs and three RBI. Eris Filpo (4-3, 7.20) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks, striking out three, in five innings. Alexander Martinez (2.95) earned his 11th save, giving up one unearned run in one inning.

Dominican Summer League South (18-31) lost 9-1 against the Phillies Red. Alan Perdomo (0-1, 8.83) allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits and a walk, striking out three, in three innings. Jose Cordova (.267) singled home Jesus Baptista (.290) for the Rockies only run.

Dominican Summer League Northeast (33-16) won 11-0 at the Mariners, extending their lead over the second-place Mariners to give games. Juan Toribio (3-1, 3.40) worked six shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks, striking out five.
