Rico Garcia Among 4 Jet Hawks On Cal League Post-Season All-Star Team
Rico Garcia was a 30th-round draft choice out of Hawaii-Pacific in 2016. In the past two years, he has climbed the prospect ladder quickly.
Garcia, despite being promoted to Double-A Hartford at mid-season, is among four players from the Rockies High-A Lancaster affiliate who was selected to the California League post-season All-Star team, matching Rancho Cucamonga for the most selections.
Other Jethawks selected were outfielder Vince Gernandez, third baseman Colton Welker, and right-handed closer Reid Humphreys, who was promoted to Hartford in late July. Garcia and Humphreys are only the fourth and fifth Lancaster pitchers to be honored in the franchise's 22-year history.
Garcia was 7-7 with a 3.42 ERA in 16 games, 15 starts for the Jethawks, and is 6-1 with a 2.37 ERA in nine starts at Hartford since his promotion.
Humphreys was 2-0 with a 1.83 era to go with a team-high 22 saves bfore he was promoted on July 27. He sturck out 51 and allowed 22 hits in 35 1/3 innings, and suffered only one blown save.
Welker, 20, is hitting .333 with Lancaster, and leads the California League with 139 his, and is second with 76 RBI.
Fernande is the Cal League leader with 75 runs scored and 59 walks, and is second in the league with 22 home runs.
