Grand Junction's Montes MVP for Pioneer League in Short-Season All-Star Game

Grand Junction shortstop Coco Montes, the Rockies' 15th-round draft choice in June out of the University of South Florida, has spent the summer making a strong impression on the folks in the Rookie-level Pioneer League.

Tuesday night, he sent the message to the short-season Class A Northwest League.

Montes was the Pioneer League MVP in the short-season All-Star Game, helping the Rookie-Level Pioneer League to a 12-9 victory, and it's first win against the more-advanced short-season A Northwest League.

Montes, who leads the Pioneer League with a .382 average, went 2-for-3 with two home runs and six RBI in the All-Star Game played in Grand Junction.

Grand Junction reliever Alex Martinez earned the save. 

Shortstop Terrin Vavra and outfielder Daniel Jipping of the Rockies Boise affiliate in the Northwest League were the only position players from either team that did not appear in the game.
