Hunter Stovall Delivers; Grand Junction Heads to Playoffs

After a five-year absence, the Grand Junction Rockies are returning to the Pioneer League Playoffs.

With a 3-1 victory at Orem on Wednesday night, the Rockies Rookie Level affiliate clinched the second-half South Division title, and will open the Pioneer League playoffs Friday night against Ogden, which won the first hlf.

With the win, the Rockies are 23-14 in the second half with a game to play on Thursday night in Orem.

Orem took a 1-0 lead in the fifth, but in the top of the sixth, Hunter Stovall celebrated his 22nd birthday with his 10th home run of the season, and later in the inning Niko Decolati singled home the go-ahead run. Reese Berberet doubled and scored n a Christopher Navarro single int he seventh to finish the scoring.

Eris Filpo started for the Rockies and allowed one run over five innings. Will Tribucher retired all six that he faced in the sixth and seventh innings. Michael Agis ran into some trouble in the eighth after a walk and a single, but he got D'Shawn Knowles to fly out to center field, and Connor Fitzsimons to ground out to end the inning. Reagan Biechler closed the game out with a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out Roper to end it.

Decolati finished with three hits, while Berberet and Grant Lavigne added two. Lavigne also walked twice, pushing his season total to 42, which is a club record.
