WR Cox Announces He Will Transfer to Southern Illinois
Sophomore Avante’ Cox was listed as a starter on the Cowboys’ season-opening depth chart. The sophomore from Rochester, Ill., didn’t feel he was getting enough action, and after the third game of the season announced he was leaving the program.
On Sunday, Cox announced on twitter that he was going to transfer to FCS-level Southern Illinois, a three-hour drive from his hometown.
He will have three years of eligibility at Southern Illinois.
Despite his decision to leave Wyoming more than a month ago, Cox’s twitter account still features him catching a pass in a Cowboys’ uniform.
Earlier this season, Trey Woods, who led the Cowboys in rushing with 493 yards last season, announced he was leaving. Woods, a two-star recruit projected as a linebacker, was moved from running back to defensive end for this season, but suffered a shoulder injury and did not play this year.
“Thank you to my brothers at UW for giving me a chance and giving me hope,” Woods posted on insta-gram. “Y’all always been with me and I’ll always be with y’all. Thank you to the fans and everyone that believed in a kid that didn’t always believe in himself.
“This game and journey has left me with a heavy heart, so I will be moving on to something new. Thank you coach Bath and coach Cooper. There were a lot of days that weren’t easy, but you guys gave me hope and promise. I will always appreciate the both of you as men. Thank you for the memories Laramie .”
