As Much a Struggle as It's Been, Cowboys Have Bowl Potential

The Cowboys are coming off back-to-back victories, and with a 4-6 record are two wins shy of becoming bowl eligible. They have two remaining games — home with Air Force on Nov. 17, and at New Mexico on Nov. 18.

In the S&P+ rankings, the Cowboys are ranked ahead of both teams. Wyoming, in fact, is ranked sixth among the 12 MW teams, 86th overall. They are three spots ahead of Air Force, and 16 ahead of New Mexico.

If the Cowboys finish 6-6, given the support of their fan base, they are expected to land a bowl. The speculation centers on the Arizona Bowl in Tucson.

The S&P+ Ratings are a college football ratings system derived from the play-by-play and drive data of all 800+ of a season's FBS college football games (and 140,000+ plays).

The components for S&P+ reflect opponent-adjusted components of four of what Bill Connelly has deemed the Five Factors of college football: efficiencyexplosivenessfield position, and finishing drives.
