Cowboys Monday Update: Evans Unlikely for 2nd Week in a Row

Running back Nico Evans, who ran for 190 yards in the Cowboys season opener at New Mexico State but exited five plays into the second half against Washington State with rib soreness, most likely will miss his second start in a row in Saturday’s game against Wofford at War Memorial Stadium.

Evans did not travel with the team to Missouri.

“Concerning Nico, he will be doubtful,” said coach Craig Bohl. “Those bruised bruises for a running back can take some time.”

Among the changes in running back on this week’s depth chart was Jevon Bigelow jumping from third to first with Xazavian Valladay remaining in the No. 2 slot. Bohl, however, indicated Monday that Valladay will likely see more game action Saturday than he has in the first three games.

Bohl also said tight end Josh Harshman could miss several games with a knee injury suffered at Missouri. The Cowboys already had Austin Fort on the sideline with an injury. That leaves Tyree Mayfield as the only one of the original three fullbacks who were expected to share time on the depth chart.

Jackson Marcotte, a true freshman from Mount Carmel, Ill., is expected to be the backup to Mayfield.

Raghib Ismail, Jr., moved to the No. 1 spot at wider receiver with John Okwoli in the No. 2 slot, and Avante Cox not on the depth chart.
