Cowgirl Golfers Tied for 11th in Rebel Beach Invitational

LAS VEGAS -- Cowgirls Junior Megan Knadler shot a season-best one-over-par 73 in her second round of the Rebel Beach Invitational on Monday, helping the Cowgirls to claim a tie for 11th place headed into Tuesday's final round.

“I am very proud of Megan and her solid play on a tough golf course today,” Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender said. “As a team, we got off to a shaky start. Unfortunately, there is little room for error on this course. Considering the tough weather conditions, our round this afternoon was much better. I believe we have the caliber of team to compete in a national ranked event like this one, but we need all five players to show up to compete tomorrow.”

The Cowgirls turned in combined scores of 24-over-par 312 and 21-over-par 309 (+21) in the first two rounds at the Spanish Trail Country Club (par 72, 6,380 yards). 

Redshirt sophomore Kaylee Knadler opened the event with a one-over-par 73, which tied her career-best round and was also the team best score during the morning round. During the afternoon round, she posted an 10-over 83, and enters the final round tied for 48th of the 71-player field with a 12-over-par 156 .

Sophomore Erin Sargent is tied for 55th after a first-round 10-over-par 82, followed by a five-over-par 77 in the second round. She is just a few shots back of Kaylee Knadler with a 15-over-par 159 after the first day. Senior Gabrielle Gibson is tied for 61st after rounds of eight-over 80 and 10-over 82 (+10). Redshirt freshman Caitlyn Skavdahl is one shot back of Gibson with a total 20-over 164. Skavdahl opened with a 15-over 87 before storming back with a five-over 77 during the second round. Junior Sarah Hankins rounds out the Cowgirls with a two-round mark of 26-over 170.

UNLV leads the 12-team field after the opening day with a two-round total of 14-over 590. Clara Avenlig of Kennesaw State and Kendra Dalton of BYU are sitting tied for first with a par 144 ith one round remaining.
