Cowboys Golfers Headed to Mark Simpson Colorado Invite in Albuquerque

The Wyoming Cowboys, golf team, coming off it’s best round of the season with a 13-under part 275 in the final round of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational on Tuesday, heads to Albuquerque this weekend for the William H. Tucker Invitational

Cowboy senior John Murdock led the way earlier this week, firing an eight-under par round of 64 that tied the Colorado Invitational single-round record and tied the University of Wyoming single-round record.

This weekend’s tournament field will feature six members of the Mountain West Conference: No. 143 Air Force, Colorado State, No. 62 New Mexico, No. 68 San Diego State, No. 15 UNLV and No. 105 Wyoming..

The tournament field of 17 teams also includes No. 21 Arkansas, BYU, No. 86 Coastal Carolina, No. 117 Colorado, No. 83 Denver, No. 128 Loyola Marymount, No. 163 Nebraska, No. 132 New Mexico State, Pepperdine, No. 17 UT-Arlington, and No. 180 UTEP.

Wyoming has finished among the top six teams in each of its first three fall tournaments -- 2nd in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, 4th in the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational and 6th in the Ram Masters Invitational.

 Dan Starzinski won the Ram Masters Invitational and set a tournament record, shooting an 11-under par 199.  It was Starzinski’s first tournament win of his college career.

 Three Cowboys finished in the Top 14 individuals at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational.  Senior John Murdock tied for sixth.  Junior Dan Starzinski tied for 10th, and true freshman Kirby Coe-Kirkham tied for 14th.
