Listen In Bud Black: Reds Didn't Want to Take Chances With Hampson in the 11th

The Reds had seen enough of Garrett Hampson swinging the bat for three nights. So when he came up with two out in the bottom of the 11th on Saturday night and the winning run on second base, Reds manager David Bell did not hesitate ordering an intentional walk. Face it, Hampson was 5-for-9 with a home run and two triples in the series, and in the bottom of the ninth on Saturday it took a highlight film, leaping effort by Reds center fielder Shogo Akiyama to force the extra innings. And the respect for Hampson was apparent again in the 11th, after both teams had scored two runs, and Hampson came up with Josh Fuentes on second and two out. Hampson was intentionally walked.
