Cowboys Maintaining Edge In Battle for MWC 1st Round Bye
Now comes the big challenge for Cowboys basketball.
The Cowboys enjoyed Senior Night at the AA on Wednesday night, beating Air Force 66-54 with a tip of the hat to seniors Louis Adams and Hayden Dalton, both of whom scored 12 points and had eight rebounds. Adams gave the Cowboys the final pitch, scoring eight points during a 9-0 Cowboys run with less than 10 minutes to play.
Junior Justin James led the Cowboys with 18 points, hitting seven of 10 field goal attempts.
That was fun.
Now the Cowboys close out the regular season at Boise State. And what’s at stake? A bye in the first round of the MWC tournament. The Cowboys and San Diego State are tied for fifth place with 10-7 record. San Diego State hosts 20th-ranked Nevada, which has clinched the MWC regular-season title.
If the Cowboys win at Boise State it doesn’t matter what San Diego State does. The Cowboys split with the Aztecs in the regular season, which means the tiebreaker then comes down to how the two teams do against the teams ahead of them in the standings.
The Cowboys go into the Boise game having beaten the Broncos in Laramie. San Diego State split with Boise so if the Cowboys win that gives them the fifth seed. Wyoming split with Nevada and Fresno. San Diego State goes into Saturday's game against Nevada having already lost to the Wolfpack so it has to win to match the Cowboys. And when it comes to third-place Fresno the Cowboys have the tiebreaker, having split against the Bulldogs while San Diego State lost both games to Fresno.
The Cowboys are 4-6 all-time in Boise.
