All Six Rockies Eligible For Free Agency Have Filed

The six Rockies players eligible to file for free agency took advantage of the option — outfielders Carlos Gonzalez, Matt Holliday and Gerardo Parra; catcher Drew Butera; reliever Adam Ottavino, and second baseman DJ LeMahieu.

The Rockies have until Friday to make a qualifying offer of $17.9 million, which if the player accepts would be the same as agreement on a one-year contract. Be warned, however, of the 73 players who have been made a qualifying offer since the aspect was added to free agency in 2012 only five accepted — Brett Anderson, Jeremy Hellickson, Neil Walker, Colby Rasmus and Matt Weiters.

By tendering a qualifying offer, a team would receive draft choice compensation if a free agent who spent the entire 2018 season with the team signs with another team. Holliday and Butera, in-season additions, would not carry compensation because of their late-season addition to the Rockies.

Players do have until offices close on Wednesday to file for free agency. All six eligible Rockies, however, are among the players who have already opted to officially file for free agency.
