Down the Stretch: Game 162 and It all Depends on If. ...

Okay, Atlanta has clinched the NL East title. And they will open the NL Division Series on Thursday on the road. And against whom? Well, they could know sometime Sunday afternoon, but then again it could be Monday evening before things shake out for the rest of the NL post-season teams.

The Rockies and Dodgers head into Sunday tied for first-place in the NL West. The Cubs and Brewers are tied for first-place in the NL Central. And the two wild-card teams, who will play on Tuesday, will consist of the two teams that lose out in the NL West and NL Central races.

The scenarios:

NL West

Rockies and Dodgers both win on Sunday

They play Monday in Dodger Stadium

The winner advancing to the NL Division Series on Thursday, hosting Atlanta in Games 1-2, and a possible Game 5. The loser travels to either Milwaukee or Chicago for the wild-card game on Tuesday. The loser of the wild-card game goes home. The winner? It plays the NL Central champion in the NLDS with the NL Central champion having the home-field advantage..

One wins, one loses on Sunday

The winner hosts Atlanta on Thursday in Game 1 and on Friday in Game 2 of a best-of-five NL Division Series. It also would host a possible Game 5. The loser plays the NL Central team that winds up a wild-card in the wild-card play-in game at the ballpark of the NL Central wild-card entry on Tuesday, the winner advancing to the NL Division Series agianst the champion of the NL Central, beginning on Tuesday.

NL Central

Cubs and Brewers both win on Sunday

They play Monday at Wrigley Field

The winner advancing to the NL Division Series on Thursday, hosting the NL wild-card in Games 1-2, and a possible Game 5. The loser hosts the wild-card game on Tuesday. The loser of the wild-card game goes home. The winner? It plays the NL Central champion.
