Stats Perform: Rockies Looking For Winning Trip To Miami for 1st Time Since 2013

From the Offices of Stats Perform

ROCKIES (24-36) at MARLINS (25-34)

● Colorado has not won a road series against the Marlins since 2013, losing five series and splitting once. ● The Rockies, who are 4-22 on the road in 2021, are the first major-league team to lose 22 of their first 26 road games of a season since 2006, when two teams started 4-22 (Royals and Pirates). Colorado has scored 11 runs in its last 11 road games, with four of those in its last road contest, on May 30 in Pittsburgh.

● The Marlins pulled within a game of .500 with their win over the Phillies on May 26, but they have lost nine of 10 games since then.

● Isan Diaz is 4-for-12 over his last three games, raising his season batting average from .116 to .148.

● Joshua Fuentes went 9-for-25 (.360) on the Rockies’ homestand and is hitting 175 points higher at Coors Field (.330) than in road games (.155) this season.

● Antonio Senzatela has not allowed a home run in his last four starts, three of which were at Coors Field. Pablo Lopez struck out nine batters in his last start, tying a career high (also this year on April 18).

METS (29-23) at ORIOLES (21-38) ●

The Orioles have allowed the most home runs in the majors this season (88), and the Mets have allowed the fewest (36, eight fewer than any other team).

● The Mets are hitting .280 and slugging .490 with 14 home runs over their last eight games. Over their first 44 games this season they hit .224 with a .342 slugging percentage.

● The Orioles scored 18 runs against the Indians on Sunday. That’s the third highest total for a team in a game this season and was Baltimore’s most runs since August 16, 2015 (18 versus Oakland).

● Cedric Mullins is the first Orioles player to have as many as eight hits and three home runs in a two-game span since the team moved to Baltimore in 1954.

● James McCann has hit four home runs with 11 RBIs in his last seven games after he had two homers and 10 RBIs in his first 37 games this season.

● David Peterson allowed five runs in one-third of an inning in his last start, which was the first time this season that a Mets pitcher didn’t make it out of the first inning. Bruce Zimmerman has allowed nine home runs and a .588 slugging percentage in six games at Camden Yards in his career, but only four homers and a .432 slugging percentage in six major-league road games.

BRAVES (28-29) at PHILLIES (28-30)

● The Phillies swept the Braves in a three-game series in Philadelphia to open the season, limiting Atlanta to three runs. Since 2017, the Phils are 26-13 at home against Atlanta (14-23 on the road against the Braves).

● Since May 21, Atlanta has remained between .500 and three games below break-even. The Braves are 0-5 this season when attempting to move their record over .500.

● With Bryce Harper returning to the lineup on Saturday, the Phils scored 17 total runs in defeating Washington on Saturday and Sunday. Philadelphia has won three of its last four home games following a four-game losing streak at Citizens Bank Park.

● Freddie Freeman is the active leader in both home runs (28) and RBI (115) against the Phillies. Freeman’s home run against the Dodgers on Friday is his only round-tripper in his last 15 games.

● J.T. Realmuto is hitting .350 over his current six-game hitting streak, with six RBIs, five walks and a 1.031 OPS. Realmuto has a .419 average against the Braves in 2021, second highest by any Atlanta opponent (minimum 25 plate appearances; Teoscar Hernandez, .458).

● Drew Smyly has allowed 14 home runs in 2021, tied with Robbie Ray for the most among lefthanders in MLB. Aaron Nola recorded his 1,000th career strikeout in his last outing; his lifetime rate of 9.86 whiffs per nine innings is the highest by any pitcher in Phils history with at least 1,000 strikeouts.

DODGERS (34-25) at PIRATES (23-35) ●

Since 2018, the Dodgers and Pirates have met 12 times. The Dodgers are 11-1 in those meetings, averaging 8.08 runs per game compared to the Pirates’ 3.83 runs per contest.

● The Dodgers are 4-9 against NL Central opponents this season with six of their nine losses being decided by one run. The Dodgers have outscored those NL Central teams by 20 runs (73-53) despite the losing record.

● The Pirates were swept by the Dodgers in their last series at PNC Park in 2019 and were outscored 28-11. The Pirates have been swept at home twice this year, with a run differential of minus-nine at PNC Park.

● In his last five games, Cody Bellinger has collected five hits and seven RBIs and has a .294 batting average. In his seven games prior, he had four hits with two RBIs with a batting average of .138.

● Adam Frazier is on a 10-game hitting streak, tied for the longest active streak in baseball with Evan Longoria (SF) and Austin Meadows (TB). This is his third hitting streak of 10 or more games this season.

● Walker Buehler is 4-0 this season with a 2.82 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. In his last start vs. Pittsburgh (May 24, 2019) he earned a win, giving up one earned run over six innings. JT Brubaker went 2-2 in both April and May, though his ERA jumped from 2.63 in April to 4.82 last month.

NATIONALS (24-32) at RAYS (38-23)

● These teams last met in 2020 in a pair of two-game series; the Rays took three of the four games. Since 2009, Tampa Bay is 7-2 at home versus the Nationals.

● Losses in Philadelphia on Saturday and Sunday dropped the Nats to 3-8 in their last 11 games, during which they’ve been outscored by 20 runs (53-33). The two most recent losses to the Phillies saw Washington allow 17 runs, only eight of which were earned.

● The Rays are an MLB-best 19-4 since May 13, scoring 6.43 runs per game – also the majors’ top figure. Tampa Bay is second in the American League in run differential at plus-75, trailing only the White Sox’s plus-85.

● Trea Turner led MLB in hits last season with and ranks fourth this year with 71. Prior to 2020, only twice in team history had an Expo/National finished in the majors’ top five in hits, both in the Montreal era. Both Al Oliver (1982) and Vladimir Guerrero (2002) finished third.

● Austin Meadows was hitting .215 on the morning of May 27; beginning on that date, he has hit safely in 10 straight games. Meadows has a .395 average during the streak, with five homers and 19 RBI. He is the only player in MLB with an average under .250 and 30 or more extra-base hits in 2021 (.248, 31 extra-base hits).

● This is the first time in Jon Lester’s career that he has gone as many as seven starts into a season without earning a victory. Tyler Glasnow’s 2021 rate of 2.30 strikeouts per hit allowed would be the third highest in AL history, minimum 10 starts (Shane Bieber, 2.65 in 2020; Chris Sale, 2.32 in 2018).

ASTROS (33-26) at RED SOX (37-23)

● The teams played a four-game series at Houston last week with the Astros taking three of four. Houston pitching limited Boston to four runs in the first three games before the Red Sox took the finale, 5-1.

● After winning eight of nine from May 11 through May 20, Houston has gone 7-8 despite scoring 5.07 runs per game (76 in 15 games) and posting a 3.88 ERA. The Astros have allowed 13 unearned runs in that 15-game stretch.

● Boston’s .258 batting average ranks third in the majors, two spots behind the Astros’ MLBbest .268 mark. The Red Sox have slumped to a .245 average and 4.29 runs per game in June; in May, they plated 5.38 runs per contest while hitting .261.

● Carlos Correa and Xander Bogaerts have 10 home runs apiece and are two of the three AL shortstops with double-digit longballs in 2021 (based on primary position for the season). The Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette, with 11, is the other American League shortstop with 10-plus homers.

● Xander Bogaerts (69) and J.D. Martinez (67) are one of four teammate pairs to have collected at least 65 hits apiece in 2021. Only one other AL club has such a pair – Toronto, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Marcus Semien.

● After posting a 5.86 ERA in 2019, Framber Valdez has worked to a 6-3 record and 3.31 ERA in 2020 and ’21 combined. Martin Perez’s 3.09 ERA ranks sixth among lefthanders with at least 50 innings worked in 2021, and his 0.62 homers per nine innings is third lowest among southpaws.

BREWERS (33-26) at REDS (28-29)

● This is the third straight series between the clubs occurring in Cincinnati, following meetings between the clubs in Ohio in September 2020 and last month. The Brewers won the last two meetings after the Reds had taken five of the previous six games between the teams.

● After dipping below .500 at 24-25, the Brewers have gone an MLB-best 9-1 since May 27, outscoring their opponents by 20 runs (50-30). Seven of Milwaukee’s nine victories in that stretch have come by multiple-run margins.

● The Reds come into the series off a four-game sweep of the Cardinals in St. Louis. The four-game winning streak marks the first time in two months that Cincinnati has won more than two games in succession; the Reds won six straight games between April 3 and April 9.

● Before resting on Sunday, Omar Narvaez had an impressive two games against the Diamondbacks on Friday and Saturday. He went 5-for-7, homered in each game, and scored six runs. It is the first time in Brewers history that a catcher has scored three or more runs in consecutive games (based on position in game).

● Nick Castellanos went 0-for-5 on Sunday, ending his 21-game hitting streak. It is the longest streak in MLB this season, the longest of Castellanos’ career, and the first streak of 20-plus games by a Red since 2007 (Brandon Phillips, 22 games).

● Among pitchers with at least 40 innings as a starter, Sonny Gray receives the lowest average run support, 1.91 per nine innings (while in the game). Adrian Houser’s last outing was his first in relief this season; he yielded only one run in five innings.

MARINERS (30-31) at TIGERS (24-35)

● Detroit swept Seattle at T-Mobile Park in three games earlier this season. In their previous 10 meetings, Seattle went 9-1, outscoring the Tigers by 33 runs. Detroit’s only win during that span was decided by one run.

● The Mariners beat the Angels 9-5 on Sunday, one shy of a double-digit performance. The Mariners and the Pirates are the only MLB teams not to score in double digits in a game in 2021.

● Since 2019, the Tigers have struggled against AL West teams, posting a 12-31 record. Only six of the 31 losses have been one-run games, as Detroit has been outscored by 91 runs over the 43 meetings.

● J.P. Crawford has started hot in June, slashing (.409, .444, .773) over six games. In April and May combined he hit (.246, .310, .328) over 54 games.

● Over his last 10 games, Jonathan Schoop is batting .405 with a 1.461 OPS, 15 hits and six homers. In his previous 46 starts this season, he had a batting average of .225 and a .581 OPS, with only three homers.

GIANTS (37-22) at RANGERS (23-38)

● The Giants have won six of the last seven games between these teams, although all of those games were played in California.

● San Francisco has won 10 of its last 11 road games dating back to May 16. With a win today, the Giants would have only their second 11-1 road stretch since moving to California (also done in September 1965).

● The Rangers have lost 11 of 12 games for the first time since late in the summer of 2014.

● Buster Posey has had three or more hits in seven of his 40 games this season. That’s more three-hit games than he had in 2019 (five in 114 games) or 2018 (six in 105 games).

● Adolis Garcia has not hit a home run in his last 10 games, with his only RBI over that stretch coming on a fielders choice.

● Alex Wood has lost three straight starts after beginning the season 5-0 in his first six starts. Jordan Lyles has not allowed a home run in 40.1 innings over his last 17 games against the Giants (six starts, 11 relief appearances). YANKEES (31-29) at TWINS (24-35)

● The Yankees have won the season series from the Twins in each of the past 13 seasons in which they met (2007 to 2019). The teams last split in 2006; the Twins last won the season series in 2001.

● The Yankees are 14-21 against division foes this season and 17-8 in all other games. They have allowed 4.2 runs per game against A.L. East teams and 3.2 per game against all other clubs.

● The Twins failed to hit a home run on Sunday, ending their 16-game home-run streak, which tied the longest in the major leagues this season (Braves, May 7-23).

● Nick Gordon is the first Twins player to have at least eight hits and three stolen bases in his first six games in the major leagues, since the team moved to Minnesota in 1961.

● Giancarlo Stanton is hitting .161 at Target Field, tied (with Comerica Park) for his lowest batting average at any stadium at which he has 25 or more at-bats.

● Jordan Montgomery allowed four home runs in his first three starts this season, but only three homers over his last eight starts. Michael Pineda allowed five runs to the Pirates at Target Field on April 24 but he’s allowed six runs in his five other home starts this season.

BLUE JAYS (30-27) at WHITE SOX (36-23)

● The White Sox are 23-10 at home, the second-best record in the major leagues (Mets, 15-5). The Blue Jays are 10-4 in their last 14 road games.

● The White Sox are assured of their best 60-game start since they were the defending World Series champion in 2006 and began the season 37-23.

● The Blue Jays averaged 5.9 runs per game in 21 games at TD Ballpark this season but have averaged only 4.4 runs in all other games in 2021.

● Marcus Semien has hit safely in each of his last 20 road games, the longest road hitting streak in the major leagues this season.

● Jose Abreu has not driven in a run in five games, his second longest drought of the season. He went seven games without an RBI from April 7-15.

● Robbie Ray has allowed 14 home runs this season (although none in his last start), tied for the second-highest total in the majors. Carlos Rodon has averaged 13.2 strikeouts per nine innings, fifth highest among pitchers who have thrown 40+ innings.

INDIANS (31-26) at CARDINALS (31-29)

● The Indians are 11-7 in games in interleague games in St. Louis, the third best record for any AL team, behind the Rangers (6-0) and Rays (5-3).

● The Orioles scored 18 runs against the Indians on Sunday. That’s the third highest total for a team in a game this season, and it was Cleveland’s most runs allowed since April 19, 2006 (18, also at Camden Yards).

● The Cardinals have lost five straight home games, their longest losing stretch within one season since a six-game home losing streak in June/July 2018.

● Harold Ramirez is hitting .444 with five RBIs over his last five games after hitting .241 with eight RBIs in his first 26 games this season.

● Nolan Arenado has seven hits over his last two games, tying his most in a two-game span in the major leagues (done twice previously, in 2015 and 2017).

● Shane Bieber has thrown 100 or more pitches in each of his last 11 starts, the longest current streak in the major leagues (no other pitcher even has a streak of four games). In his last start, Carlos Martinez became the first pitcher to allow 10 or more runs without getting three outs since Jon Lester in 2017. No other Cardinals pitcher has had a game like that in the modern era.

DIAMONDBACKS (20-41) at ATHLETICS (35-26)

● The Athletics have won their last four home games against the Diamondbacks and have not allowed more than one run in any of those games (3-0, 2-1, 4-1, 5-1).

● The Diamondbacks are 6-29 since May 1, their worst 35-game stretch since 2004 (several overlapping spans, with a low of 5-30).

● The A’s are 17-17 at home although they have been outscored by 28 runs, the second-worst differential in the major leagues (Orioles, -36 at home).

● Matt Olson is hitting .458 (11-for-24) over his last six games, with two home runs, eight runs scored and eight RBIs.

● Ketel Marte is hitting .500 (15-for-30) over his last seven games, with two homers, six runs scored, and six RBIs.

● Jon Duplantier allowed three home runs in four innings in his last game, as many as he had allowed in 41.1 innings in 16 previous games in the major leagues. Chris Bassitt issued a season-high five walks in his last start against the Diamondbacks, on April 12.
