Red Sox Facing a Game 2 Jinx? Find Out Tonight

From the files of Stats, Inc.

The eight runs surrendered by the Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series are the most given up by the team in its last 31 games, regular season and playoffs. Since 2004, Boston has scored 40 runs in four World Series Game 1’s – but only 10 runs in three Game 2’s.

The Dodgers are 4-9 all-time in World Series in which they have lost Game 1 – but are 4-3 in such Series since 1955 (winning in ’55, ’59, ’65 and ’81). Since August 24 of this season, LAD is 13-2 in games following a defeat (regular season and postseason).

In postseason play since 2013, the Red Sox are 13-0 when scoring five or more runs (7-13 when scoring four or fewer runs). Boston is 36-3 (plus one tie) all-time at home in the postseason when scoring at least five runs.

On Tuesday, Andrew Benintendi became the first player ever to record at least four hits and three runs in his World Series debut. In 16 previous postseason games in his career, Benintendi had never had as many as three hits or three runs scored.

Hyun-Jin Ryu had an 8.59 ERA and .371 opponent batting average in two NLCS starts; he was tagged for seven earned runs in 7.2 innings. In his previous eight starts (seven in the regular season, one in the NLDS), Ryu yielded a total of eight earned runs in 49.2 innings for a 1.45 ERA.

David Price is 3-9 with a 5.04 ERA in his postseason career, but has pitched much better in the LCS and World Series. In nine games (four starts) in those two rounds, Price is 2-1 with a 3.93 ERA (13 earned runs in 29.2 innings). Price has a 7.27 career ERA at Fenway Park in the postseason (14 ER, 17.1 IP).
