Nationals Making Roster Adjustments
The Nationals reinstated catcher Matt Wieters from the 10-day disabled list and selected the contract of outfielder Moises Sierra on Wednesday. To make room for the additions, outfielder Adam Eaton was placed on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to Monday with a bone bruise to his left ankle, and the Nationals designated catcher Miguel Montero for assignment.
Wieters, 31, missed eight games with a mild left oblique strain.
Sierra, 29, was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training. Sierra put together a strong spring, hitting .321 (17-for-53) with three doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs and eight runs scored in 30 Grapefruit League games. Prior to joining the Nationals, he went 4-for-12 (.333) with one RBI, four walks, two stolen bases and two runs scored in four games for Triple-A Syracuse this season.
Eaton, 29, appeared in eight games for Washington, hitting .345 with a .424 on-base percentage and a .655 slugging percentage. He was named National League Player of the Week after a strong opening weekend against the Reds.
Montero, 34, made the club after entering Spring Training as a non-roster invitee. He went 0-for-11 with two walks in four games with Washington.
