Rams Extra Effort Brings Softball Win in MWC Opener
FORT COLLINS – The Colorado State softball team opened Mountain West Conference play with a 4-3, 10-inning victory over Nevada at Ram Field on Friday afternoon. Haley Donaldson delivered the game-winning single up the middle with one out in the bottom of the 10th.
Donaldson, who was 3-for-4 with three RBI, also doubled in the bottom of the first to get the scoring started for the Rams (14-9 overall).
Bridgett Hutton went the distance in helping the Rams end a three-game losing streak against Nevada, which had celebrated walk-off victories in the last two games.
“The whole team talked about how badly they wanted to win it for Bridgette," said coach Jen Fisher. "She pitched a great game and I think in the 10 innings, she missed one pitch. We talked before the last inning and as a team we said we wanted to get it done for Bridgette. She played good defense and she had a huge part in that win.”
The Rams wrap up the series with Nevada with a doubleheader on Saturday, having moved the Sunday game up a day because of concerns about inclement weather.
