Gamboa Sets Tone Early for Rams Softball in win Over San Jose

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Corina Gamboa unloaded her eighth home run of the season in the bottom of the first on Sunday,  sending the Rams softball team on its way to a 10-3 victory against San Jose State in the series finale at Ram Field on Sunday.

The Rams added to their lead in the third inning as Madison Kilcrease singled to right field to drive in two more runs. CSU pushed its lead to five in the fourth frame following Amber Nelson’s third hit of the game, which scored Haley Donaldson.

San Jose State eliminated the shutout in the sixth inning scoring three runs after the loading the bases and drawing two walks and a fielder’s choice.

"(Amber Nelson) looked good," said CSU Coach Gen Fisher. "She is in a good place and even Saturday she looked dialed in. She is just trying to hit her pitch and she keeps coming back and works really hard. She has the right mentality so when those things come together for her, she is effective and I’m really happy for her.”
