Herl Confirms He's Headed to Missouri State
As first reported by insidetheseams, Colorado State’s former interim head coach is on the move. Jase Herl will sign a contract with Missouri State and join Dana Ford’s staff as an assistant coach for the Bears, Herl confirmed Friday.
Herl worked under Larry Eustachy for the majority of two seasons at CSU before being named interim head coach on Feb. 10 following the suspension of former associate head coach Steve Barnes and Eustachy.
Herl won just one game while in charge, but his impact was palpable. Players praised Herl for keeping the locker room together after experiencing extreme highs and lows throughout the year. They also were grateful for his approach as interim head coach, emphasizing that he never tried to control them too much and allowed the players to go out and just play basketball.
Prior to his time at CSU, Herl spent one season at South Plains College in Levelland, TX., where he was an assistant coach for one of the nation’s premiere JUCO programs. Former CSU forwards Che Bob and Emmanuel Omogbo each attended South Plains, as well as former Ram commit Jordan Brangers.
Herl also served as first ever head coach at Northwest Technical College in Goodland, KS. In three seasons with the Mavericks, Herl led the team to 56 victories and sent five players to Division 1 schools. One of those players was former CSU superstar Gian Clavell.
When previously asked if Herl should be considered for the permanent gig at CSU, Clavell made it clear that he believes Herl is one of the best young coaches in the country.
“He is a hell of a coach and a great teacher. I hope he gets the job but if he doesn’t, I am sure he will be very successful,” Clavell told insidetheseams.
