Rams Tennis Team Reaches 10 Wins for First time in 11 Years

COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado State tennis team scored a 5-2 victory at Air Force on Sunday, reaching 10 wins for the first time since 2007 with its first win against an MW opponent this season.

The Rams are 10-10.

“We’ve been so close,” CSU head coach Jarod Camerota said, reflecting on CSU’s challenging league slate to this point. “We knew we had to just keep competing and working hard and the wins would eventually come. This feels good, and I’m really proud of the team.”

CSU’s doubles rallied after Air Force took the first doubles match on court 2, and won the next two to take a 1-0 match lead. Freshmen Emily Luetschwager and Emma Corwin combined to win 6-3 at No. 3, and the top duo of Alyssa Grijalva and Priscilla Palermo won at No. 1, 7-5.

Corwin and sophomore Riley Reeves promptly extended the Rams’ lead to 3-0 with straight-set singles wins on courts 5 and 6, with both players winning by scores of 6-1, 6-2.

Grijalva sealed the match for the Rams with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3. The win was Grijalva’s 13th of the spring and pushed the team to a 4-0 lead.

Junior Emily Kolbow would also register a singles win, defeating Ash Harvey in three sets; 6-4, 6-7 (4), 10-8.

The Rams will finish their regular season with a pair of home matches. CSU hosts Northern Colorado April 19 in a non-conference match before closing out the regular season hosting rival Wyoming April 22 to close out the regular season. The MW Tournament will take place April 26-29 in Boise, Idaho.
