Rams Climb Into Tie for 5th at Golf Regionals

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – On what is considered moving day for all the NCAA Regionals, the Colorado State men's golf team made the biggest move at the 2018 NCAA Kissimmee Regional, jumping four places into a tie for fifth after two rounds on Tuesday. The three-day, 54-hole event, hosted by the University of Central Florida, is being played at the Reunion Resort's Watson Course (Par 72 – 7,154  yards) in Kissimmee, Fla.
The Rams scoring players closed in 3-under to post an 11-under 277, the second-best round of the day, and a 36-hole total of 11-under 565 in a tie with top-seed Vanderbilt and No. 3 seed North Carolina for fifth.

The 277 is the second-lowest ever posted in a regional by the Rams, behind the 12-under 276 in the 2007 West Regional's final round. The 565 is the lowest two-round score for CSU in regional action by three shots.

Florida leads the event at 25-under 551, five shots better than host UCF in second at 20-under 556. Kent State is third at 16-under 560, with South Florida in fourth at 13-under 563.
The Rams were led by junior Jake Staiano and freshman Jack Ainscough, each posting a 4-under 68. Staiano utilized his eagle and four birdies to improve to 5-under 139 for the event, moving into a tie for sixth. Ainscough had a team-high seven birdies on the day and improved to a tie for 34th at even-par 144.

Senior Max Oelfke had a 2-under 70 and is now at 1-under 143 overall, tied for 23rd. Freshman Parathakorn Suyasri was the other counting score, shooting a 1-under 71 and is also tied for 34th at even-par 144.

Sophomore AJ Ottovercame a rough start and eventually finished the day with a 3-over 75 and is tied for 46th at 2-over 146.

There is a three-way tie for the individual lead at 8-under 136 between UCF's Kyler Tate, Andy Zhang of Florida and North Carolina's Austin Hitt.
The top five teams and top individual not on advancing teams will move on to the NCAA Championship at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., May 25-30.
