Rams at Florida Football to be Aired on SEC Network

The Southeastern Conference and ESPN released kickoff times and TV information for the 2018 season Thursday, including Colorado State’s Sept. 15 game at the University of Florida. The Rams and Gators will kickoff in Gainesville, Fl. at 2 p.m. MT and will be viewable on the SEC Network.

Although the excitement for the game from has dissipated since former CSU head coach Jim McElwain is no longer in the swamp, the Sept. 15 contest with the Gators provides yet another opportunity for the Rams to compete on a national stage. More importantly it is a selling point on the recruiting trail for head coach Mike Bobo and his staff.

As a former SEC player and long-time SEC coach, Bobo’s southern roots have paid off immensely in the nation’s most fertile recruiting ground. The Augusta, Ga. native has consistently recruited states like Florida, Georgia and Louisiana heavily, allowing the Rams to snag players from the SEC’s backyard.

Having games like Florida on the schedule only increases the chances of elite players signing with the Rams because Bobo can go to those players and tell them that they will have an opportunity to compete on the biggest stage possible.

Last season’s trip to Alabama marked the beginning of five consecutive seasons in which CSU is scheduled to face at least one team from the SEC. In 2018, CSU will host Arkansas (Sept. 8) and travel to Florida (Sept. 15).

“It was something we used in recruiting when we recruited the guys from southern states. That we would play the University of Alabama, that we would play the University of Florida (2019),” Bobo said in Sept. 2017.

“Quite frankly you talk to these kids and say, ‘Hey you want a chance to play Florida? You’ve got a chance to play them in two years. You’ve got a chance to play Alabama.’ Because every kid, let’s be honest, they dream of going to the University of Alabama, Florida, Georgia or USC. So we use that to our advantage in recruiting.”

When the Rams travel to Gainesville in September, it will be the first ever contest between the two schools, and the program's first game played in the state of Florida since Nov. 23, 1985 when CSU played at Miami. Led by head coach Jimmy Johnson, the Hurricanes defeated the Rams 24-3.
