Boise Sweep; No Fond Farewell for CSU Softball Seniors
FORT COLLINS – Boise State put a damper on the farewell game for the four seniors on the Colorado State softball team. Boise completed a weekend sweep of the Rams with a 7-2 victory on Sunday in the final home game for Madison Kilcrease, Hannah McCorkhill, Hayleigh Evans and Kaylynn Pierce all played their final game at Ram Field.
Trailing by two runs heading into the final inning, the Rams looked to make a comeback, but Boise State smothered those hopes as it scored four insurance runs off a walk, wild pitch and two-run scoring single to lead 7-1 late.
“I thought we made a couple great plays,' sais Rams coach Jen Fisher. "Hannah McCorkhill’s defense really showed. We had two nice plays at the plate and Haley Donaldson made a couple nice plays at short getting lead runners out at second base that were big for us. We did some good things on defense, but a team like Boise State exposes your weaknesses. Pitching wise, BSU knew how to throw us and they really kept us off balance all day.”
The Rams complete their regular-season with a three-game visit to UNLV, beginning with a Thursday night game.
“We have to have a lot of fight going into the final series," Fisher said. "I think it is important for the younger players. It is different when you don’t have a conference tournament – it is difficult to play hard through the end of the season. Hopefully they understand that there is something to fight for and to come with more energy than we had this weekend to finish strong.”
