Koonik, van Der Ploeg Taking Part in Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

LARAMIE — Seniors Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg have been invited to participate in the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in the qualifying doubles which begins on Tuesday. The pair qualified for the tournament after being ranked in the Oracle/ITA 2018 preseason doubles.

They will open up action tomorrow against the doubles team of Magda Adaloglou and Emma Antonaki of Mississippi State.

Koonik, from Tallinn, Estonia, and van Der Ploeg, from Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, enter the fall season tied for the 60th best doubles team in the country. They placed seventh in the ITA Mountain Regional Rankings in June. The duo finished the year 17-12 overall, 11-5 during the spring and 3-0 in MW action on the way to garnering All-Conference honors for the second time in their careers.   
Pre-qualifying matches will be contested at Pepperdine University, with Riviera Tennis Club holding qualifying and main draw matches. Pre-qualifying beings on September 29, 2018, with Qualifying singles and doubles set for October 2-3, and the main draw running from October 4-7.

In addition to vying for the All-American national title, players will be competing to secure a berth into the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place November 7-11, in Surprise, Arizona. Singles quarterfinalists, consolation singles champion and finalist, along with doubles semifinalists and consolation doubles champion and finalist advance to the end of fall national championship.
