Cowboy Joe Club Auction Earns Record $495,000 for UW Athletics

Laramie -- The 32nd Annual Cowboy Joe Club Auction, sponsored by Wyo4News.com, held on September 28th at Little America Hotel & Resort in Cheyenne, raised a new record of $495,000 for Wyoming Athletics.

Nearly 400 Wyoming Cowboy and Cowgirl student-athlete scholarships will benefit directly from the revenue raised from this event. Proceeds are matched by the State of Wyoming in their commitment to Wyoming Athletics.

“It is certainly impressive to see the amount of support we receive at this event,” said Randy Welniak, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Development and Revenue Enhancement.  “To generate nearly $500,000 in one night is remarkable!  Our fans and donors are truly passionate about supporting our student-athletes at the University of Wyoming and for that, we are very thankful!”

The annual auction, historically the Club's single-most successful fundraising event of the year, was sold out once again. The evening included: a silent auction; dinner with appearances from coaches, spirit & mascot and Cowboy Wrestling; and a live auction with over 30 items.

Kevin McKinney, Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs served as emcee, while Lex Madden served as auctioneer during the live auction.

The 33rd Annual Cowboy Joe Auction is set for fall 2019 in Cheyenne, Wyo., and the date will be announced next spring.
