LARAMIE — After a three weeks between races, the Cowgirl cross country team travels to the Metro State-hosted Roadrunners Invitational at Washington Park on Saturday. The race starts at 9:00 a.m.

“We’ve had three really good weeks of training, so they’re ready to compete,” associate head coach Amanda Clower said. “It’s been a kind of a long time, so they’re really excited. It’s nice that it’s close to home. A lot of kids on our team have families that live in the Denver area, so it’s going to be nice. We’ll have a lot of support down there just like at our home meet.”

The Cowgirls last competed on September 15 at the Nebraska-hosted Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational. Freshman Katelyn Mitchem was UW’s top finisher for the second race in a row, and she earned Mountain West Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for her efforts.

Mitchem will be joined by juniors Ashley Bock and Kacey Doner, who have both finished second and third for the Cowgirls in both meets this season. Senior Emily Person made her season debut in Nebraska and cross the line fourth among the Brown and Gold, while fellow senior Kiah Leonard rounded out UW’s scorers at the meet in Lincoln. Seniors Solana Quistorff and Regan VanDePol and freshmen Kaylee Bentley and Michelle Renner round out the athletes Wyoming will send to the meet.

Additionally, Cowboy senior Calum Kepler will use this weekend as a chance to compete in one more race this season.

Joining the Cowgirls at the meet are Black Hills State, Central Wyoming, Chadron State, Colorado College, CSU-Pueblo, Dallas Baptist, Fort Lewis, MSU-Denver, New Mexico Highlands, Regis, St. Edward’s, Texas A&M International, UC-Colorado Springs and Western State Colorado.

Following the race, the top men’s and women’s teams will be presented a trophy, and the top 15 athletes from each gender will be announced and awarded a T-shirt.
