Cowgirls Volleyball Receives Votes in AVCA Top-25 Poll
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After the second week of the 2018 volleyball season the Mountain West has won 38 nonconference matches. The MW has a 3-0 record against the Atlantic Coast, Atlantic 10 and Northeast conferences. Nationally, both Colorado State and Wyoming received votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll.
Coming off a three-win weekend, Nevada visits Sacramento, California, for a tournament featuring Sacramento State, Seattle and UC Riverside. Last week, the Wolf Pack were led by Kayla Afoa, who set career highs in kills (18) and attacks (44), while notching three double-doubles. As a team, Nevada is fourth nationally in digs per set and fifth in the nation in team attacks per set.
This week, Colorado State will visit No. 20 ranked Michigan, while Wyoming will host Arizona State, Binghamtom and Murray State. Fresno State, which is currently 6-1 on the season, has the MW leader in digs (160) with sophomore libero Reagan Leonard, who is averaging 5.16 per set. The Bulldogs have started the season winning six of their first seven matches for the first time since 2009.
Boise State remains the lone team in the Conference without a loss to open the season. The Broncos lead the Conference in opposing hitting percentage (.131) and blocks per set (3.14). This weekend, Boise State will face off against Santa Clara and UC Davis in its third straight road trip.
