Getting to Know Cowgirl Basketball's Tommi Olson

LARAMIE, Wyo. (October 29, 2018) – Leading up to the 2018-19 Cowgirl basketball season, will use Q&A’s to introduce the incoming freshmen. Today, we caught up with Tommi Olson, a guard from Worland, Wyo., majoring in chemistry.

Why did you choose the University of Wyoming?

It was home for me, and it was always been a dream of mine to play for the Cowgirls. It holds a special place in my heart.

What was the most fun thing you did this summer?

Going to the Powell Fair and Derby.

How did you get in to playing basketball?

My mom had a basketball team, and I was always at the practices trying to do the drills they were. I fell in love with it, and I’ve been playing ever since.

What’s your pre-game ritual?

Putting on my socks starting with my right foot then going to my left, and the same with my shoes and knee straps.

What’s one item from your bucket list?

Go fishing in Alaska with my dad.

What’s your favorite food?

Mom’s homemade spaghetti.

What is your favorite karaoke song?

“Halo” by Beyoncé.

What’s the most essential thing you pack for a roadtrip?

A blanket.

What’s your favorite book?

“The Great Gatsby.”

Who’s your biggest role model?

My mom and dad.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Follow your heart and go get what you want.

How has the transition to college gone so far for you?

It’s good. Sometimes things are challenging, but overall it’s a good experience.
