Four Cowboys Win 1st Round Matches at NCAA Wrestling

INDIANAPOLIS -- Four Wyoming wrestlers, including No. 1 ranked Bryce Meredith, won their first session matches in the NCAA Wrestling Championships Thursday afternoon in front of a crowd of 18,660.. They will look for pick up second-round victories in the night session, which begins at 5 p.m., M.T.

First round results

133 pounds: No. 8 seed  Montorie Bridges beat Ben Thornton, Purdue, 16-3.

141 pounds: No. 1 seed  Bryce Meredith decision Colton Schilling, Cal Poly, 5-1.

149 pounds: Sam Turner lost to No. 16 Alfred Bannister of Maryland, 4-3 

157 pounds: No. 9 Archie Colgan decision Hunter Willits, Oregon State, 3-1.

165 pounds: No. 14 Branson Ashworth decision Connor Flynn, Missouri, 5-2.

184 pounds: Chaz Polson lost to No. 7 Taylor Venz, Nebraska, 19-1.
