Look Who's Back: RHP Ashton Goudeau Rejoins Rockies in San Diego

A native of Union, Mo., who attended Maple Woods Community College in suburban Kansas City, Ashton Goudeau was a 27th-round draft choice of the Kansas City Royals in 2012, and spent five years in the Royals organization.

And then, in 2018, he began a tour of America, which began when he spent the summer pitching for three of Cincinnati’s minor-league affiliates.

On Thursday, he found himself back with the Rockies, acquired from the Reds for cash considerations.

It’s a relationship that began in 2019, when Goudeau was more than even the Rockies could have expected. His record was 3-3 at Double-A Hartford, but it went with a 2.07 ERA in 16 starts, in which he struck out 91 in 78 1/3 innings, walked only 12 and allowed only 60 hits. He followed that up with a trip to the Arizona Fall League, where he made the move to the bullpen, striking out 18 in 13 scoreless innings.

And during a COVID-shortened 2020 season saw him make his major-league debut with the Rockies, appearing in four games. And then, last fall, the tour of America began.

Designated for assignment by the Rockies after the 2020 season, he has spent time playing in six different organizations, including twice with the Rockies.

His determination to keep on playing is now paying off with a third tour in the big leagues — two opportunities with the Rockies with a shot in Cincinnati in between.
