Toglia Makes Presence Felt in Salt River Blowout of Mesa Silver Sox

Rockies prospect Michael Toglia homered for the second game in a row — the fourth time he homered in back-to-back games this year and first time since July 29-30 — in the Salt River Rafters 15-7 victory against the Mesa Solar Sox on Saturday.

The former Rockies No. 1 draft pick out of UCLA came up as the seventh batter in the fourth inning and with a runner on base drove a 1-2 pitch over the right field fence to give the Rafters a commanding nine-run lead. The switch-hitting Toglia added a single and a walk, giving him five hits, four walks and three RBI in his first four AFL games. Ryan Vilade pinch-hit for Toglia later in the game, delivering a single and scoring a run.

Rockies second base prospect Ezequiel Tovar recorded two base hits and drove in a run. Serving as the second batter in the pivotal fourth inning, the 20-year-old singled and came around to score on Joe Gray Jr.’s RBI knock. He capped off the eight-run frame with another single that plated Joey Wiemer to give the Rafters an 11-1 lead.

The Arizona Fall League teams are off on Sunday.
