Virtual Field Trip: Civil Rights: Before You Could Say Jackie Robinson
Tuesday, April 11, 1 p.m.

In baseball – as in America – freedom is an ongoing quest. For almost 65 years, Black players were prevented from playing in the American and National Leagues simply because of their skin color. In this unit, students will explore American history from the Civil War to the Civil Rights movement. They will work to learn how race relations in baseball reflected significant social and cultural developments in the United States. This program is free in part to our collaboration with CILC but registration is required. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information to join the virtual program.

Virtual Voices of the Game: James Loney and Wes Parker
Friday, April 14, 12:30 p.m.

Join us as we discuss the importance of Jackie Robinson with two former members of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Wes Parker, who played first base for the Dodgers from 1964 to 1972, and James Loney, a Dodgers first baseman from 2006 to 2012, will offer their thoughts on Robinson, his career legacy, and his impact on their own careers in honor of Jackie Robinson Day. We will take questions for Loney and Parker in our Chat Room. As always, Virtual Voices of the Game programs are free of charge, but registration is required.
