Monday Farm Report: Feltner Will Get Call Up To Start Wednesday for Rockies in Pittsburgh

Ryan Feltner was in charge in his start for Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday night. He, however, came out after three shutout innings in which he needed only 39 pitches, giving up two hits and seven strikes.

Surprised?

Don’t be. Feltner’s pitching time was limited so he can get a start for the Rockies in Pittsburgh on three days of rest Wednesday.

The decision was made to limit Feltner’s Saturday appearance for the Isotopes in light of the fact the Rockies have placed Antonio Senzatela on the injured list last Monday. With the Rockies off on Thursday and then rained out of a Friday night game against the New York Mets, the rotation was disrupted, and manager Bud Black does not want to use a starter on short rest.

Black also does not want to have another bullpen game, an option used in Saturday’s doubleheader against the Mets. Instead, Feltner will make his fourth career start for the Rockies, the second this season.

On April 27 at Philadelphia, he gave up seven hits and four runs in five innings, walking two and striking out seven in a 7-3 Rockies loss.
